ALLY FINANCIAL – STOREFRONT
UX Visual Designer
About UX Storefront
After being with Ally for about a year and half, I received a promotion and moved over the UX Storefront side of the company where I currently work today. For approximately 6 months I worked both storefront and marketing before moving over solely to storefront in the Summer of 2021.
Within storefront, I am responsible for both the Corporate and Credit Card LOBs. Corporate covers all aspects of design for every page under the "About Us" section of Ally's website. In addition to redesigning and launching 11 new pages for the Investor Relations portion of the site, I also published a net new page detailing Ally's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts and developed/implemented an updated design for their grants and sponsorships page. My biggest accomplishment to date within Corporate was the launch of 3 updated career pages, including one net new benefits page, which our team Corporate Kai implemented and designed from start to finish. Credit Card is a brand new business where I am the lead designer. Assets are expected to launch at the end of October 2022.
Investor Relations
Over the course of 2021, Ally made the decision to upgrade their web platform, requiring all of the company's pages to be rebuilt. As the primary designer for the Investor Relations portion of the website, it was my job to rebuild and republish the 11 affected pages. This not only required a design update, but also working with new design components, several that were built specifically for Investor Relations. I was responsible for working with the dev team to test the new components as they were released for use, ensuring that they worked as intended. An example of the redesigned Investor Overview page is shown below.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Diversity, equity and inclusion are an integral part of Ally's culture and philosophy. When I first joined the corporate team, a dedicated Ally DE&I page didn't yet exist. Our squad was tasked with telling the story of why it is so important and how Ally is acting as a leader with their ongoing efforts. All illustrations and page layout were net new and our team followed the project through from concept to completion. In the process we worked with the Chief Diversity Officer and the Chief Human Resources Officer among other high level executives to ensure that Ally's story was presented accurately and cleanly.
Summary
Making the transition to storefront has allowed me to greatly expand my knowledge of UX design. Since moving over I have worked in conjunction with our developers to help design new components for our web system, worked extensively on ensuring all our designs are at level AAA accessibility standards, and become intimately familiar with the internal squad and review process.
