About Charlotte Fire Communications
The Charlotte Fire Communications Division, or as they're informally called, "Alarm", supports the fire department with 24-hour emergency dispatch for all public calls related to fire department issues.
The Problem
Neal, one of the members of the Charlotte Fire Communications Division (also called Alarm), was in need of a logo refresh and two t-shirt designs; one for everyday wear and one for Saint Patrick's Day 2019. He wanted the designs to better reflect the overall mission of the division while at the same time fostering team pride in a fun and colorful manner.
The Solution
While the original logo was working for the division, our design team knew it could be better. The hierarchy of the typography needed improvement and the colors were too dark around the hornet making it hard to see his communication headphones. I fixed this by lightening up the background and adjusting the size of the taglines to be smaller than the division name. I also updated the shape of the maltese cross to modernize it a bit more.
The Solution: Saint Patrick's T-Shirt Design
For this design I wanted the overall feel to be a bit lighter and more fun. To achieve this I created a muscular, no-nonsense Irish Fireman with the slogan, "Bustin' Ours, Savin' Yours" to illustrate how hard the fire communiations division works year round for the community's safety and well being.
The Solution: Everyday T-Shirt Design
Neal came to us in need of a t-shirt that was bright and fun but also conveyed a sense of pride for the division and what they did. The finished design features the division's mascot, the hornet, dressed like a super hero with the saying "not all superheroes wear capes." This is to reflect the fact that while the job may be tough, it is always worth it. Fire fighters are truly the heroes of our community.
Overall Results
Refreshing the logo has resulted in a more modernized, cleaner overall look for the division's identity. In addition, through the creation of the two t-shirts Charlotte Fire Division now has a t-shirt that represents the pride and dedication of the people who work there. Designing a fun t-shirt for St. Patrick's day allows the division to show their pride while at the same time having a little fun with the message.
